Priyansh Arya scored 103 runs in just 42 balls, leading Punjab Kings to beat Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Arya, 24, scored a hundred on his IPL debut. The knock was good that the home put up a total of 219/6 in 20 overs. Despite Shreyas Iyer, Priyansh’s opening partner (Prabhasimran Singh) and the middle-order setup added a combined effort of 23 runs, Punjab gave a massive target of 220 to the five-time IPL winners.
Priyansh’s efforts did get support from Shashank Singh’s 54 not out first and then Marco Jansen added an unbeaten 34 in 19 balls.
As the overall target was huge, Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway kept the hopes of the CSK fans alive. Conway added 69 and Ravindra contributed 36 runs.
Shivam Dubey, who came as an impact player, played well with MS Dhoni but was not able to chase the mega target of 220.
Dubey’s 42 did get backing from MS Dhoni’s 27, but they lost wickets from set position.
With four defeats in five games, CSK are in a very bad position. However, Punjab have now collected six points after four matches. They have lost just once in the IPL 2025.
