WBA president Gilberto Mendoza made it clear that he wants to make an immediate rematch between Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach, as per Ring Magazine.
Tank Davis was the favourite to win the fight against Lamont Roach last Sunday. However, the fight took a shocking turn when Davis took a knee in the 9th round, but the referee did not count it as a knockdown.
As a result, the fight ended as a draw. But many fans and fighters felt that Roach should have won the fight.
After the fight, Davis did not say anything about the rematch. The 30-year-old boxer came with a strange excuse of saying the hair treatment burnt his eyes. And it was the reason he took a knee in the 9th round.
The rules in pro boxing make it clear that a fight taking ka nee after a punch would be seen as a knockdown.
But Mendoza feels that it would be best to call a rematch on an ad hoc basis.
He said: “I think it’s not going to be no doubt about having a rematch on this.”
This draw has made an impact on Davis’ career to the core.
