Pakistan cricket legend Rashid Latif feels that MS Dhoni should call his time off for Chennai Super Kings.
Latif, who is a former Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman, did tell IANS that it is the right time for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup-winning captain to leave his position from the playing XI.
Dhoni, who is 43 years old now, only plays in the Indian Premier League. There is no question over his wicket-keeping ability. In fact, in the 2025 IPL, he has got praise for stumping Suryakumar Yadav and other star players.
But his contribution with the bat is very poor. In CSK’s game against the Delhi Capitals last weekend, Dhoni took 26 balls to score 30 not out.
But this led the home side to lose the game by just 25 runs. Many fans on social media did feel that any other batsman than MSD could have made things better for the five-time IPL winners.
This led CSK to face their third defeat out of four matches played in the IPL 2025.
Latif said: “He should have left a long while back, a wicket-keeper’s age is usually 35, I am an example of this. If I was on TV then I am a performer and when I don’t do it at a high level then my reputation will come down. Even if you have done it for 15 years, the younger generations will not be impressed.”
Not just Latif, but several cricket experts feel that Dhoni has turned into a burden for Chennai.
