Former Pakistan cricket batsman Rashid Latif expressed some harsh words for cricket legends Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
Younis and Akram did show their major disappointments after Pakistan failed to reach the semis of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy on home soil.
Even Mohammad Rizwan’s side failed to win even a single match at the mega ICC event. To make things worse, India are set to face New Zealand in the final this Sunday.
Previously, Latif did request that star cricketers of 90s Pakistan leave the cricket talks and beyond once and forever.
He said: “It took 17 years for Pakistan to win another World Cup because the 90s players didn’t let Pakistan cricket grow. Keep them away from management and the team, and they will start winning. They have served Pakistan cricket long enough—it’s time for them to step aside.”
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, it was Latif who showed the world spot-fixing problems in Pakistan. Back then, it made Akram pay a 10,000 USD fine too for spot-fixing allegations.
Latif feels that it was a key reason behind his short-lived cricket career with Pakistan.
He added: “The boys from Dubai have stirred up quite a scene. They seem delighted, showering each other with praise. Throughout their careers, they were always at odds, which took a toll on Pakistan cricket. Fascinating individuals—offer them money, and they’ll do anything.”
This shows how deep the crisis Pakistan are facing in cricket.
