Mohammad Kaif is too impressed with the impact that Varun Chakravarthy made against New Zealand in the final Group A ODI of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Kaif hailed Rohit Sharma’s take to play five spinners against New Zealand and Varun Chakravarthy’s massive performance.
Chakravarthy took five wickets and made sure India won the game by 44 runs at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
India have reached the semi-finals after winning all Group A games. They beat Bangladesh in the opening, then rivals Pakistan before beating New Zealand in the final Group stage game.
Matt Henry took five wickets and made India score just 249/9 in 50 overs. However, Rohit’s take on going with five spinners helped him out. Chakravarthy took five wickets, but Kuldeep Yadav also contributed with two wickets and made sure that India win the game with ease.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif hailed India’s winning run at the ongoing ICC tournament.
He said: “Varun Chakravarthy… What a story. Wicketless in 3 games during 2021 T20 World Cup, dropped for 3 years, back in Dubai, sits out for 2 games and now a five-wicket haul plus MoM on his 2nd ODI. Varun will surely play semis. No way India will miss the chance to psyche the Aussies.”
It was Australia who beat India in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023. Back then too, India was unbeaten.
India will now face Australia in Dubai on Tuesday in the first semi-final. And even experts feel that Varun Chakravarthy should play the game.
