New Zealand’s Tom Latham, 32, is out of the ODI series against Pakistan due to an injury. At the time of training early this week, the 32-year-old wicket-keeper-batsman injured his right hand.
Latham getting out of the ODI series means Michael Bracewell will lead New Zealand. Bracewell is also the captain of the T20I side.
New Zealand Cricket said: “At least four weeks of rest and rehabilitation.”
Henry Nicholls is the replacement of Latham. Nicholls is looking in sharp form, having scored five half-centuries in six innings. He was battling with a calf strain injury previously.
NZ’s Will Young will not play the second and third ODIs as he will spend time with his wife, with the pair is waiting for the birth of their first child.
However, he will play the first ODI versus Pakistan in Napier.
In the absence of Young, Rhys Mariu will fill the gap. It is the first-ever national team call in Rhys’s professional career.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead feels that they have still a stable side to win the ODI series.
He said: “It’s obviously disappointing to lose Tom as captain on the eve of the series and we wish him a speedy recovery. The side is in safe hands with Michael who’s done a great job through the T20I series.”
New Zealand are approaching the ODI series after beating Pakistan 4-1 in T20Is.
