Former Barcelona right-back Dani Alves’ rape conviction case got quashed. A Spanish court took this decision on Friday.
Catalonia’s High Court of Justice did say that Alves’ rape case has so many factual lacunas. In Feb 2024, the former Juventus full-back was punished and given an order to serve four and a half years in jail.
Back then, he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a female. The incident took place in Barcelona’s nightclub in 2022, as per the official records.
However, he did get bail in March 2024. The order was given by a higher court in Spain.
The court said: “Contains, throughout the reasoning, a series of gaps, inaccuracies, inconsistencies and contradictions regarding the facts, the legal assessment and their consequences.
“The complainant’s account, which should have been subjected to greater scrutiny, has not been compared with the fingerprint and biological evidence, which support the defence’s argument.”
The court even added the allegation made by the lady, about going to the bathroom with Alves due to having fear of being cashed down by his friends, did not have any substance.
The court explained: “Voluntarily went to the bathroom area for the purpose of being with the defendant in a more intimate space”.
Alves’ lawyer Ines Guardiola is happy with the verdict.
He said: “Alves is very happy. He is innocent, that is demonstrated. Justice has spoken.”
The former Brazil right-back was playing for Pumas UNAM when he went to te jail. It did lead the Mexican club to cancal is contract.
