Ruby Tui has missed out on being a member of New Zealand’s squad of 33 female professionals for the Pacific Four Series.

The event will start on the 2nd of May, with the United States taking on Canada at CPKC Stadium. In 2022, the New Zealand winger scored five tries and helped them to win the World Cup.

2022-WC winners Renee Holmes and Chelsea Bremner have also lost their places for the Pacific Four Series.

NZ coach Allan Bunting feels that star players can make a strong comeback before the Women’s World Cup, happening later in 2025.

Bunting said: “It’s a tight race leading up to our World Cup campaign and we know we’ve had to make tough calls at this point.”

“Our whole group is important on this journey, there is still a bit more water to go under the bridge before we name our World Cup squad.”

Portia Woodman-Wickliffe, who is famous for being a two-time world player of the year, did make a comeback from retirement. She is even a part of the squad.

New Zealand will battle against the United States, Australia and Canada in the major event before the World Cup.

New Zealand’s opening game is against Australia on 9 May.
