Delhi Capitals’ Karun Nair came as an impact player to play his first Indian Premier League 2025 game against the Mumbai Indians at home on Sunday.
The India international played a crucial knock of 89 in just 40 balls. Not getting the support from the other end led Delhi to lose the game by 12 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
For the first time since 2022, he played a game in the IPL (thanks to his amazing domestic career).
After the 2018 IPL, he has not played more than four games in a season.
Despite losing for the first time in the 2025 IPL, Nair’s performance has given DC an extra option in the batting lineup.
Former India batter Ambati Rayudu backed Nair after playing a fast and crucial touch for his team versus MI.
Rayudu said on JioHotstar: “It’s sheer persistence because what you go through when things don’t go well for you in India is not easy to withstand. A lot of people have gone through that, and very few have come out of that with flying colours, and Karun Nair is one. Because once you get lost in the domestic system in India, it is very, very tough to make a comeback. Especially because mentally you’re always dragged down by so many things around you, and a lot of people will write you off.”
On Wednesday, Delhi will next face the Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium. It could be a game where Nair starts for the home side.
