Ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League season, Kolkata Knight Riders retained Venkatesh Iyer for a whopping Rs 23.75 crore, making him one of the highest-paid players in the Indian Premier League. ‘
Iyer made his IPL debut in 2021 for KKR. Last season, the 30-year-old batsman played a huge role in making Kolkata win the IPL title.
Against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, Venkatesh scored a crucial 60 runs in just 29 balls and helped KKR win their second match this season.
However Venkatesh feels that every time he plays for KKR this season, the huge price tag burden impacts somewhere or the other.
He said: “Yes, there is some pressure, I won’t lie. The pressure not about money, it is about how can contribute to the team’s success.”
Before facing SRH, Venkatesh did score only nine runs in three matches. But his magical touch in the fourth match against Hyderabad made KKR get some stability under the new captain Ajinkya Rahane.
